Listen actively, so they feel heard. Indicate you understood them by an appropriate nod or facial expression. According to Dr Albert Mehrabian 55% of our communication is non-verbal and our engagement assists the person we are communicating to feel validated. Acknowledge how they feel with empathy. Empathy is when you understand how they could feel that way. You put yourself in their shoes, however, you do not necessarily have to agree, or it may not be what you would do. Then speak from your heart as this is the source of true wisdom—of where authentic kind and loving words originate. Kindness is the bridge to another allowing you to resonate with them in a connected way.
